Real Worship

“But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him.”
John 4:23
Worship is not just done in a building. Worship is done in the heart. There are so many misconceptions of what worship is. Worship is not about getting some feeling from God. Worship is about giving all feelings to Him. In fact, worship is not about you at all. Yes, God wants to communicate with you. He wants to hold you, inspire you, consume you, and direct you. He adores you, but worship is not centered around God running to you. It’s always about Him. Worship is expressing your awe of your loving Maker. Worship is choosing to slow down in Scripture, to truly seek God. He never snuck away from you. He never distanced Himself from you. You chose other priorities. You crowded Him with your fear, your lust for success, your own goals, and your own plan. You pushed Him further away. You hid Him behind all your other desires. Worship is the process of admitting His preeminence over these things. Worship is about pronouncing God’s first place in your life. You realize the greatness of your King, so you make the effort to push aside the barriers, clean house of your personal clutter, and seek out His face. Worship is about you running to God-not for what He can do for you, because that makes it about you again. It’s simply about you taking the time and the effort to just stop and give awe to Christ.
