An Adulterous People

“You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God. Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” James 4:4

God is a jealous god. Truly think of how this could be. He thought of your specific design. He created you carefully and distinctively. He watched you grow, quietly working behind the scenes for your good. He knew you were human and therefore deserved hell but He made a way. He sent His own perfect Son to take your murderous sentence. He delighted in you as you came to Him. He noticed you. He darkened the sky each night, making it easier for you to sleep. He painted colors above, reminding you how beautiful you are to Him. He never leaves you, because you are His favorite place to be. And yet you choose another. You endlessly flirt with the one thing that shatters His heart and forces Him to ache and moan. Sin. Sin seduces. Sin attracts. Sin whispers into your ear exactly what you want to hear. Sin wants you, and you can’t help but look. It’s all just so easy, but realize that it’s all so heartbreaking. Do you even remember the depth of God’s love for you? It’s still there but you’re too consumed in cheating on your King. Where you give your time is where your heart is. God is a jealous god. Don’t choose the adulterous life against Him.
