The Working Concept

I find rest in God; only he gives me hope. He is my rock and my salvation. He is my defender; I will not be defeated.
Psalm 62:5-6
The only rest for the soul is not a concept, process, or a religion. He’s a person. Give up the self-helps, the cute acrostics, and the temporary fixes. Listening to podcasts, for example, is a wonderful tool to remind yourself of truths from Scripture, but don’t forget to truly seek the Scripture for yourself. Reading devotionals, though helpful and powerful, should never replace God’s exact words in the Bible. Those little instruments we use in our walk with God must never be more prominent in our relationship with Him that the Man Himself. If we’re not careful, the more we rely on a five point sermon, the less we rely on the person of Christ. The more we focus on steps toward peace or practices to perfect our faith, the less we focus on the character of our Wondrous King. The more we value the blessings from God, the less we value God Himself. Our relationship with our Reigning Maker will not grow if our eyes are solely on man-made concepts. The only concept that works is a Man. The only process that works is salvation through Him. The only religion that delivers is not a religion at all. It’s always Christ, and it always will be.
