Forcing A Relationship

The Lord is good. His love is forever, and his loyalty goes on and on.
Psalm 100:5

A relationship with Christ that is natural, genuine, understanding, fresh, attractive, and filling is less complicated than expected. Too often we over-analyze our relationship with our Savior. Sometimes, we base it entirely on feelings, assuming that if we don’t feel God then something is wrong. Sometimes, we base it entirely on circumstance, assuming that if our current situation is painful then God isn’t paying attention. We over-think and over-react. Sometimes, we even feel like we’re forcing a relationship with God. There are those unmistakable, countless times when we suddenly sprint to God for Him to lessen the conviction, stop the pain, give a straight answer, or just make our lives better. If that is the substance of our relationship with God, then no wonder it’s not going anywhere! If that is the core of the communication, of course it feels forced. We’re forcing the focus on us. It’s not about us! Yes, what God does for us is unlimited and so good, but it stems from the greatest, truest love for us. That’s His motivation. What is ours?
